Blankie

Blankie is M’s friend. If not for C being the big brother, Blankie would likely be our best friend, and may be when M and C are fighting. Blankie goes everywhere in the house with us and must be in bed with us to sleep a wink. M has fits the whole time Blankie is in the wash.

We’ve been lucky with both boys. Neither liked pacifiers and both want to be “big boys,” so bottles easily gave way to sippy cups which have fallen in favor of big boy cups (though we have Spiderman sippy-cups that we fall back on every once in a while). C had Pete the dog which never left his side, but Pete spends his days on C’s bed and is only rarely a necessity at night.

We’re diaper and pull-up free. C took a while and still needs to be watered at night, but M decided one day that he wanted to be potty trained and has never looked back.

But, Blankie may be an issue.

At lunch at the grandparent’s house last Sunday, M decided that he hated all food. He then realized that he would get no birthday cake unless he ate lunch. In the midst of a fit he threw back his head and let out a wail of “Blankie!” Blankie was at home and of no help.

M starts school in September and I wonder how easy the transition to no Blankie each day will be. Preschool has nap time and I doubt M will sleep without his friend. But, I don’t want to prolong the issue by allowing Blankie to go to school.

Conundrum.
