Happy Mother’s Day

So, today was both Mother’s Day and M’s 3rd birthday. Both were celebrated in earnest.

The day kicked off with a tap on my foot at 6 am. “Daddy,” M whispers,”It’s my birthday! I’m 3!” Mommy got to sleep in and I herded boys and dog downstairs. M and C wanted to open M’s presents. Both boys have seen a commercial for a pancake puff pan, similar to W&S’s ebelskiver, so K and I bought one. Neither boy was impressed.

“Hmm,” said M. “That’s boring,” says C, “we wanted toys.” I offered to make some pancake puffs. No, both boys want blueberry muffins. Okay, can do and done. We eat, we play Connect-4, we watch George. Mommy gets up, we open Mother’s day presents.

Everyone gets dressed and we head to Lilac Sunday at the Arnold Arboretum. We bring the dog. We get coffee and race through the park. “This is a bad park,” states C, “there are no swings.” We walk, we sniff, mommy is happy.

Home for lunch. A few presents for M, and the grandparents show up hours earlier than we expected. Panic followed by acceptance. We play, we talk, some Mother’s Day presents for Grammy. M refuses to share his new toys with C. C melts down. M melts down. Both boys pass out. More family arrives, more presents, dinner. Our Spiderman birthday cake is served along with Party Cake ice cream.

Family departs, baths are had, Dragon Tales is watched, all collapse.
